Howdy and welcome to our lifestyle, travel, and photography blog, Peaks and Waves! We are the Ortega family and we are excited about sharing part of our lives with you. We’ve been married 10 years and have a 5 year old daughter, Lydia, who’s too smart for her own britches and a 6 month old baby boy, Lennon, who lights up our world with his smile. Charlie and I both work full time and have started this little blog together as a side project. We currently live in a small town near Fort Worth, Texas.
Peaks and Waves was inspired by our love of travel, our children, and our awe of God’s creation. It’s also symbolic of life in general, isn’t it? In our 10 years of marriage we have enjoyed visiting places ranging from the peaks of the mountains to the waves of the sea. Our daughter loves the ocean and its creatures and our son’s nursery is decorated in a mountain theme.
“For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.”
Get To Know Us
Charlie graduated from Tarleton State University with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in December 2015 and currently works as a Critical Care Nurse at our local hospital. In his spare time he loves to explore and create new music (primarily guitar and singing… which I happen to love… hubba hubba) and plays with the worship band at our church when his schedule allows. He’s a people person who is good at making others feel at ease and giving them a good laugh too.
You’ll often find Charlie making strong coffee in his french press, fishing with his best buddy, or being silly with the kids. He’s a wonderful husband and the best of dads. We’re incredibly fortunate to have him in our lives and we think the world of him. Charlie desires to share his journey of fatherhood and faith while helping others along the way.
I (Courtney) graduated from Dallas Christian College in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Ministry. I’m a full-time working mom and a hobbyist photographer. I have recently decided to start being more intentional and less wasteful with my time. That translates to spending less of my free time glued to my phone and watching television and more time having meaningful conversations, reading, and writing, for instance. I aim to grow as a person as much as possible.
My main interests are faith, family, and photography but I also enjoy traveling, concerts, and learning new things. I love flip flops and blue jeans and small town living. Iced tea, warm pastries, and small gatherings hold a special place in my heart. You may find a little of all of those things sprinkled here and there. I also want to find meaningful ways to help others and hope I can accomplish that through this blog at times as well. If you’re looking for fashion or cats, you’re in the wrong place. If any of our interests resonate with you, I hope you stick around a bit. Feel free to reach out to us or leave a comment.
